One of the sponsors of the AT&T National Pro Am, Poppy Hills Golf Course is one of the highest rated public courses on the Monterey Peninsula. Poppy Hills is a beautiful course with exceptionally friendly staff. There will usually be a club house attendant at your car as you unload your clubs from the trunk.
The course can be very challenging for the weekend golfer. Many recommend getting a golf cart with GPS and hiring a caddie who knows the course. Don’t go too deep in the woods for your ball as you are more likely to find poison oak than a Titleist. This Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed course is owned (first one) by the NCGA.
Print out your NCGA handicap score and show it to the ranger to waive the 17-mile drive entry fee ($9.25 value) for the four-some in your vehicle. It will also afford you a nearly 75% discount off of the $200 green fees. Now, that’s worth a membership fee, (NCGA), and a printer!
The full distance range accommodates a choice of either synthetic or real grass. The range balls are nice and affordable; 50 Nike for a $5 token, (please check current pricing at the pro shop).
