Just 30 minutes from San Jose and a thousand miles away from civilization is an extraordinary golf course in the foothills of California’s Santa Cruz Mountains called CordeValle.
Every course critic there is has nothing but love for this Robert Trent Jones, Jr. 18-hole championship course. The scenery is almost distracting, which can hurt your score on this challenging and diverse course. The brilliance of the designer has created a course that can challenge the pros and yet be a fun experience for the novice.
The courses natural beauty is enhanced with streams, broad meadows, mature California Oaks, and abundant wildlife. It is exceptionally well maintained with a friendly staff. CordeValle has one of the largest practice areas in Northern California.
Now for the bad news-good news-bad news on this course. Bad news is that it is a private course and if you are not a member, you will need to know one. Good news is that if you rent one of the private bungalows you can play the course as a guest of the club. Bad news is that the cost for a round as a guest competes with Pebble Beach at $390-$420.
