Callippe Preserve Golf Course is a new 18-hole championship course in
Pleasanton, California. In addition to the tremendous views of the nearby mountains, Callippe was routed to take full advantage of the twisting Happy Valley Creek. The 11-14th holes are adjacent to Callippe butterfly sanctuaries.

The layout is challenging but fair and rewards the thinking golfer where length and power are not the most critical skills required to play this course well. The afternoon wind can play a factor. Most reviews consider the front nine a good warm up for the more challenging back nine. The par-5 18th hole requires thoughtful placement as you cross the creek twice before hitting onto an elevated green. Overall this is a must play course for the Bay Area.

This is truly a “Diamond in the Rough”. The course in set back in the hills of Pleasanton in a new housing development. Tee boxes are nicely maintained and each one has a shoe brush, first time I’ve seen that on a public course.
I played on a weekday with mild temps but the breeze picked up around 3pm.
Fairways are neat and nicely laid out; wide fairways with elevation changes galore. Greens were also nicely groomed and fast with elevation changes on a few holes. Sand traps are a plenty both fairway and green side and pin placement of course was mostly behind the trap.
Carts have GPS which was great for a public course, plenty of water kiosks throughout the course, and real bathrooms!
The only downside was throughout the course is there are “environmentally protected” areas and if your ball goes in there it stays there, you are not allowed to go in after it, I got yelled at for doing so, the Marshall's were everywhere.
I don’t know what the rates are because we had a coupon and played for only $45 with lunch & cart, guess it was a mid-week special.
I can see why it gets busy on the weekend because this is a course I suggest all member have to play at least one.
This is truly a beautiful course; I hope it doesn’t go private once they finish the development.

Played a few weeks back. On a weekend. Slow. You come to expect it on a weekend at a muni. I think it's very fair, though a little overpriced for the weekend rate. Traffic always seems to back up at the first par 3, like three groups... So, it plays at least 5 hours on a weekend. My round ended up being better than 6 hours since we waited on just about every tee...

The course itself is typically in great shape, the greens roll true, the pro shop and staff is great, and the setting is nice. Front 9 is open while the back 9 goes through a canyon.
