The Northern California Golf Association (NCGA), a non-profit service organization, currently consists of 1,250 clubs with a total membership approaching 175,000 making it the largest regional golf association in the country stretching from the Oregon border to central California and east into Nevada. Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach and Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore are owned and operated by the NCGA. The Association’s charitable arm, the NCGA Foundation, supports initiatives for deserving youth.

The NCGA is dedicated to educating its members and the public while growing the game of golf and increasing enjoyment of the sport. NCGA services range from tournament administration to course rating and handicapping to communications (NCGA Golf magazine), environmental services and teaching the Rules of Golf.

BACKGROUND:

The Northern California Golf Association is accepting applications for its nationally recognized P.J. Boatwright Internship Program.

The 6 month program extends from May 1 – October 31, 2010 and offers a comprehensive introduction and extensive training experience for a qualified intern in preparation for a career in golf administration.

The P.J. Boatwright intern will work with at least seven different departments at the NCGA including Administration, Rules and Competitions, Course Rating and Handicapping, Communications, Education, Environmental and Water Resources and the NCGA Foundation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A college degree (completed or in progress) preferred but not required. Applicants must have high interest in golf administration, be self-motivated, personable, willing to work flexible hours, have strong verbal and written communication skills, proficiency with MS Office environment and exceptional organizational skills. Golf background is helpful, but not required. Golf playing skill or interest is not considered. Must be able to attend a week long USGA Intern Orientation in New Jersey in May. USGA employees, USGA committee members, NCGA employees or board members; as well as relatives of all the aforementioned individuals are not eligible for consideration.
